MTEMC Participates in 100k Tree Day

Middle Tennessee Electric is one of many electric cooperatives across the state that participating in the Tennessee Environmental Council's 100K Tree Day, today. 

The effort is geared at planting and caring for one million native trees in the state. 

"Middle Tennessee Electric is built on the seven cooperative principles, one of which is concern for community," said MTEMC President Chris Jones. "By participating in the 100K Tree Day, we are working for the sustainable development of the communities we serve."

Severe storms rocked the Middle Tennessee Electric service territory this morning causing wide-spread damage. In all, more than 9,900 members were without power at various times during the day, but line crews from the cooperative worked hard to restore power as soon as it was safe to do so. 

Early reports point to tornadic activity, with winds of 60-70 miles per hour, some reaching more than 80 miles per hour at the Smyrna Airport, responsible for uprooted trees, overturned road signs and were responsible for downed power and telephone lines in the mid-state.
