TVA Power Line Problem Results in Power Outage for North Rutherford County

MURFREESBORO, TN – Wednesday, July 15 - At least three houses were damaged yesterday on Atlas Drive in North Rutherford County as a result of a high-voltage Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) transmission line coming within close proximity of a tree.
No one was injured and the Red Cross was on site quickly to care for those affected. The Red Cross and TVA are assisting with temporary housing for those affected by power and water outages.

MED merger with MTE Finalized


MURFREESBORO, TN – The merger between the Murfreesboro Electric Department (MED) and Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) became official and finalized today.

MTE and MED Rates 25% below National Average

MURFREESBORO, TN - The latest data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) show residential customers served by Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) and Murfreesboro Electric Department (MED) see energy prices that are more than 25 percent below the national average.

During fiscal 2018, MTE’s average price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) was 10.05 cents while MED’s was 10.16 cents. The national average was 12.87 cents, making MED’s price 26.7% percent below the national average and MTE’s 28.1 percent below.

Sunday’s severe weather results in widespread electric service outages.

May 4, 2020 - Murfreesboro, Tenn. – Residents in many Middle Tennessee communities experienced power outages overnight due to a line of severe thunderstorms and 70+ mph straight-line winds that passed through the area late Sunday afternoon.

Beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, a fast-moving thunderstorm system moved across the Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) service area.

Murfreesboro City Council passes measure to merge, MTE Board affirms agreement.

Murfreesboro, Tennessee – January 10, 2020 – The Middle Tennessee Electric Board of Directors unanimously approved an agreement today to merge the Murfreesboro Electric Department into the Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation (MTE).  This action followed Thursday night’s vote by the Murfreesboro City Council to approve the merger.
