Congratulations to 11th grader, Sam Walsh of Franklin High School in Williamson County for being selected the Winner of the 2019 Washington Youth Tour Creative Writing Contest.

Sam Walsh, Winner of
2019 Washington Youth Tour
Creative Writing Contest

Each year, MTEMC and other cooperatives from around the country sponsor the Washington Youth Tour Creative Writing Contest. Students in the cooperative’s service area are presented educational materials in a variety of subjects related to electric cooperatives. They can use this information to write essays about how their local cooperative connect communities with power, information and opportunities.

Walsh’s essay was selected from more than 1,300 entries from students in MTEMC’s service area including Cannon, Rutherford, Williamson, and Wilson counties.

Walsh and 13 other students from our service area will join essay winners from other cooperatives throughout the U.S. on a trip to our nation’s capital where they will meet members of the House and Senate, tour national museums, memorials and monuments and network with other teens.

You can read Sam’s winning essay here.
